If "REJS 4" was a blast then number five was
absolutely out of this world. Beginning with the perfect
weather all day and night - not a cloud in the sky and
calm seas. Perfect temps to get down to the beats on the
open upper deck without having to break that much sweat.
Our new cruise ship, the Wendella, surpassed everybody's
expectations. Almost twice as big in size as last year's
with a huge upper deck which served as a dance floor for
about 200 people. The rest could hang below in a climate
controlled cabin with bar and food all accompanied by
a separate sound system and visuals projected from multiple
plasma screens. A total of 300 clubbers joined us for
this one. One the upper deck we have raised the bar once
again by upgrading to an expanded Fuel Ultra Heavy Sound
System. The sound pressure on the deck, even though outside
and far away from shore, was better than most clubs in
the city. The lighting system was also doubled and a full
intelligent lighting rig targeting the floor from the
four corners was installed. We were set to lay down a
perfectly fitting selection of summertime infused House
that brought the crowd to almost hysterical levels of
euphoria.
Dancing begun shortly after clearing the locks on Chicago
River and as soon as we hit the lake waters the upper
deck was moving in unison. At 9:30 pm in Chicago it is
a rare sight but not so unusual for a Fuel event. The
fireworks display at Navy Pier added that special touch
although this year, for safety reasons, the captain kept
us a bit farther from the pier. Nevertheless, the "fire
in the sky" was easily visible. The party lasted
until 1am and upon pulling into the dock most headed to
our afterparty held at Chicago's prime night spot - Spy
Bar. Fuel's DJ Rikler supplied the finishing touches to
this awesome night and rocked the floor composed of about
a hundred regulars and another two that made it there
from our boat. As with every year's, this installment
of Fuel's Annual REJS Boat Party was a huge undertaking.
We have pulled it off without a hitch and without casualties
- well, there were a couple of folks with obvious signs
of "sea sickness" (is that what they call it
these days?)). Thank you to all who joined us and to those
who were too late to get the tickets - remember to jump
on it early next time.
The Fuel Crew.
P.S. Shout outs and a big thank you to the crew and tech
